Outside Scholarships

In addition to the scholarships offered by the ɫ��ɫ Foundation, there are many different scholarship opportunities offered by outside donors and agencies.

Please note: outside scholarships listed are intended for those seeking additional aid at any institution, not just ɫ��ɫ. Due to this, some scholarships listed may have eligibility requirements that do not necessarily pertain specifically to ɫ��ɫ students.

American Indian Endowed Scholarship (AIES)

The American Indian Endowed Scholarship (AIES) helps students with financial need who have close social and cultural ties to an American Indian community in Washington State. Students can use the scholarship at public colleges and many independent colleges in Washington. The program prioritizes upper-division and graduate-level students, but all applicants are considered.

Award amounts range from around $500 to $3,000. Ten to 15 students are selected each year to receive the awards. Students may get AIES funding for up to five years, but must reapply each year.

Many past recipients have careers in law, medicine, education, business, and resource management. All have returned, or plan to return, to their tribal communities to work on behalf of Indian peoples within the state.

Applicant Eligibility:

Demonstrate financial need based on a completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Meet Washington State residency requirements for financial aid, including additional detail for “Tribal members” (under the heading “Other ways to meet residency requirements”) on the residency requirements page.
Intend to enroll full-time as an undergraduate or graduate student at a participating public or private college or university in Washington State beginning fall term of the application year.
Intend to use their education to benefit the American Indian community in Washington State.
Not pursue a degree in theology.
Have not yet received a total of five years of this scholarship.

How to Apply:

Download and review the application instruction sheet.
Go to the online AIES Portal to create a login ID and password, or login to the AIES Portal with existing info, to access the online scholarship form.
Complete the application form and upload all required attachments to the Portal.
Renewal applicants must download the “Institutional Certification for Renewal Applicant” form (available as a PDF or Word doc). This form must be completed by the applicant’s institutional advisor and returned to the applicant for upload to the online application form.
Applicants are able to work on their application over multiple sessions. Save work before exiting the Portal. Return later to finish and submit the application when complete.

American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Scholarship

The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) helps students move forward in their educational journeys by providing a wide range of programs and scholarship opportunities. AISES scholarships help students acquire skills and training that will help them meet the unique STEM needs of our communities. We highly encourage you to apply for all the scholarships you are eligible for! To apply, you must be an AISES member.

The mission of AISES is to increase the representation of American Indians in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and one of the ways we meet this mission is to provide non need-based scholarships and internships to qualified Native students in higher education.

How to Apply:

AISES student members have easy access to scholarships for American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and Indigenous peoples of Canada through the Online Scholarship Application Information System (OASIS) provided by Indigenous Education, Inc.

In OASIS, students will complete a General Application Profile that can be finished, revised and submitted year-round and that will automatically match students only with the scholarship opportunities they are eligible for, and those that are open and available to receive.

AmericanMuscle Automotive Scholarships

AmericanMuscle was founded by brothers Andrew and Steve Voudouris, and as a company built through hard work and opportunity we feel offering our youth support with some of the difficulties of being a student is a great way to thank the very people who have supported us.

Four scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to students who have exceptional drive and ambition and who are pursuing an automotive themed major. Two scholarships will be awarded every spring semester, followed by two additional scholarships to be awarded for the fall semester each year. This scholarship is available on an ongoing basis.

Applicant Eligibility:

Must be a currently enrolled full-time college student or high school senior.
Must pursue post-secondary education at an accredited U.S. college or university (accredited technical institutes are included) in an automotive or related field.

How to Apply:

Complete online application.
Applicants must write an essay ( between 700-1500 words ) telling who you are and how you plan on using your automotive education to incite positive change and innovation within the custom car industry.
Applicants must include proof of current enrollment in an accredited United States college or university.

Note: All entries must be submitted as a PDF or Microsoft Word document to be eligible for consideration.

Application Deadlines:

Please submit your essays by 12:00 pm EST on November 15 for all spring semester applicants and by July 15 for all fall applicants. Winning scholarships will be paid directly to the school as a tuition payment. Winners will be selected and notified by November 15 for all spring contestants and by July 15 for fall applicants.

This scholarship is ongoing and will be available for both the spring and fall semesters each year. Additionally, winning applicants may re-enter in future contests by writing and resubmitting a new essay. Only one essay per student, per semester is allowed.

AmericanTrucks Scholarships

At AmericanTrucks we are passionate about our mission to serve the community that supports us. We've recognized a growing trend in the building trades industry. Educational programs are receiving a lot of attention from national leaders and it’s our goal to be involved in a meaningful way.

Four scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded annually—two in the fall, and two in the spring.

Applicant Eligibility:

Must be currently enrolled full-time in one of the following: an accredited United States technical institute; 2- or 4-year college/university with program in construction management; secondary vocational technical school; or tuition bearing apprenticeship program in the traditional building trades (e.g. carpentry, HVAC, electrical, or related fields of study), or
Currently attending high school and will be attending an accredited school in the next academic year to one of the aforementioned programs.

How to Apply:

Applicants must write an essay (750-1000 words) describing who you are and how you plan to use your education to contribute to a thriving community of trade workers who are dedicated to a hands-on approach to knowledge development.
Applicants must include proof of current enrollment. Proof of enrollment can be anything from a screenshot of current/upcoming class schedule, to a letter from an administrator confirming your enrollment on the school’s letterhead.

Application Deadlines:

AmericanTrucks Scholarships are ongoing, accepting submissions year-round as follows:

Spring: By 12:00 pm on October 15
Fall: By 12:00pm on June 15

Winners are notified by November 15 for the spring scholarship and June 15 for the fall scholarship. Awards are mailed directly to the school, or to the student directed as a tuition payment to the school.

Barbara Lotze Scholarships for Future Physics Teachers

The AAPT Board of Directors offers scholarships for future high school physics teachers. These scholarships, supported by an endowment funded by Barbara Lotze, are available only to U.S. citizens attending U.S. schools.

Undergraduate students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in physics teacher preparation curricula and high school seniors entering such programs are eligible. Successful applicants receive a stipend of up to $3,000 and a complimentary AAPT Student Membership for one year. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years.

Applicant Eligibility:

Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Teachers. Applicants must declare their intent to prepare for, and engage in, a career in physics teaching at the high school level and must, at the time the scholarship funds are received by the student, be:
- an undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited two-year college, four-year college or a university; or a high school senior accepted for such enrollment.
- pursuing, or planning to pursue, a course of study leading toward a career in physics teaching in the high schools.
- showing promise of success in their studies, and
- a citizen of the United States of America.

Applications can be submitted online, accepted at any time, and will be considered for recommendation to the Board of Directors at each AAPT Winter Meeting. All applications in which all materials, including letters of recommendation, are received by December 1 will be considered for recommendation at the winter meeting of the AAPT Board of Directors.

BECU Foundation Scholarships

The Boeing Employees Credit Union (BECU) Foundation is looking for candidates who embody the people-helping-people philosophy by playing an active role in giving back to their community, whether through volunteering or through other meaningful contributions of time, effort, and care.

Applicant Eligibility:

Only BECU members may apply. Applicants must have an active membership and be designated as the primary account holder.
Applicants must be students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Applicants must be a graduating high school senior or currently enrolled in an accredited two-year, four-year, or technical college or university. All scholarship recipients must be enrolled as full time students. (Post-graduate, Masters or Doctorate candidates are not eligible to apply).

Note: Previous recipients may not apply for additional scholarships. BECU Foundation Board of Directors, BECU Board of Directors, BECU Supervisory Committee, BECU Executive Management Team, and BECU Scholarship Selection Team or any family members of the above mentioned groups are not eligible to apply.

How to Apply:

Complete an online application. (Applicants will be required to set up a profile in order to start the application).
Applicants are required to submit their hours of community service, grade point average, and current transcript. Applicants must also respond to short-answer and essay questions related to their commitment to higher education and how their community service exemplifies the credit union philosophy of people helping people.
You are required to have at least one résumé verification submitted in addition to your supporting documents for your application to be complete. Your verification should be submitted by your direct supervisor (who is not a family member) during your time of participation in the activity you have listed in your application.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to monitor the progress of all application requirements to make sure the application is complete. The status Complete will display on the home page when all forms have been submitted and all documents have been verified.

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering our annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this $500 award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

Eligibility Requirements:

The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community.
Please remember to include your name and the name of the school that you are attending.

How To Apply:

Write a short essay (500-1000 words) answering the following quetions:
- How did your participation in sports during your high school years influence you?
- Has your participation influenced your career goals?
- Has your participation influenced how you relate to your family?

City University of Seattle Transfer Scholarship

Transfer scholarships are available to first-time applicants who have received an associate degree from a Washington State Community or Technical College within the last 18 months. Students must be a Washington State resident. The total value for these scholarships is up to $5,400.

Applicant Eligibility:

Only first-time CityU applicants may apply for this scholarship. In addition, applicants must also have:
An associate degree from a Washington State community or technical college earned within the past 18 months
Should you be selected you must enroll in at least 10 credits per quarter and use the scholarship for tuition only. Students who are given this award will not receive and will not be eligible for any other tuition discounts at CityU.

All available City University of Seattle scholarships are listed on the Scholarship Details webpage linked below. Please follow the application instructions for the specific scholarship you wish to apply to.

Clallam County Physicians Benefit Fund

The Clallam County Physicians Benefit Fund was formed in 1995 when Regence BlueShield joined with Clallam County Physicians Service, Inc., a company formed by local physicians to provide health care coverage to Clallam County citizens.

Previous years' awards have ranged from $1,500 to $5,000. Applications open in March of each year.

Applicant Eligibility:

Be a graduate of a Clallam County high school.
Be accepted into, or currently enrolled and making satisfactory progress in, a fully accredited professional school in a medically related field for human health services. The Fund does not award scholarships for undergraduate studies or educational pre-requisites to professional schools.

Note: Applicants to PC's Nursing program can apply for this scholarship even if they have not yet received confirmation of their acceptance into the program, as they can be awarded preliminary approval by the committee pending their acceptance.

Clean Catalog Scholarship

We know that many college students face a lot of uncertainty right now, so we want to do our small part to help. We're offering two $500 scholarships to be awarded.

Applicant Eligibility:

Must be enrolled in an accredited 2- or 4-year institution in the United States.
Must provide description of what the scholarship is needed for.

How to Apply:

Scholarships will be awarded based on need, as determined by description provided by student.

ExtremeTerrain Scholarship

Extreme Terrain offers two $3,000 scholarships—one for fall semester and one for spring semester—to eligible students pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Research, Land Use, Earth and Atmosphere Studies, Sustainable Land Management, Parks and Recreation, or Sustainable Agriculture Systems.

Applicant Eligibility:

At least 18 years of age and residing legally in the United States.
Currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program, or be a high school senior planning to enroll full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program in the next academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States.
Pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Research, Land Use, Earth and Atmosphere Studies, Sustainable Land Management, Parks and Recreation, or Sustainable Agriculture Systems.

How to Apply:

Applicants must write an essay (between 700 -1500 words) that describes who you are, why you feel it is important to maintain access to public lands for recreational use and how you plan to use your degree to advocate for the recreational use of public lands.
Submit essay as a PDF or Microsoft Word document with proof of current enrollment in an accredited United States college or university.

Ford Auto Tech Scholarship

Ford Fund and Ford Dealers welcome the next generation of auto technicians by awarding $5,000 scholarships to students pursuing careers in auto and auto/diesel technology. This need-based scholarship is may be used for all cost of attendance expenses, including tuition, tools, living expenses and transportation. The application deadline varies from year to year.

Applicant Eligibility:

Must be pursuing a degree or certificate in automotive technology
Must be "enrolled" in college (meaning have an admission application on-file) at the time of applying for the scholarship
Have a completed FAFSA or WASFA with an EFC/SAI below 40,000
Must demonstrate financial need
Must be a US citizen, permanent resident, or have approved DACA status

How to Apply:

Create an online profile in TechForce.
Pick your college/university/tech school from the list—ɫ��ɫ is on the list for the "Greater Seattle" area. If your school is not listed, select "Other".
Complete the General Application.
Complete the "Apply to the Ford Fund AutoTech Scholarship" questions.

Applicants will be considered starting four months prior to their auto tech program's start date.

Hearthstone Housing Foundation Scholarship

The Hearthstone Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 to help with the rising costs of education. Since it's inception, the Hearthstone Scholarship Committee has awarded more than $950,000 in scholarships to students from California, Georgia, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $5,000.

Applicant Eligibility:

To be eligible for the Hearthstone Scholarship Fund, applicants must reside in Clallam County (or any county where a Hearthstone property is located), and meet the following criteria:

Be from a low-income household.
Be 15-25 years of age as of March 31.
Maintain a 3.0 GPA (for high school students) OR 2.75 GPA (for current college students).

Horatio Alger Association Scholarships

As one of the nation’s largest college financial aid programs in the country, the Horatio Alger National Scholarship Program is one of the major scholarship programs nationally that specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives.

The Horatio Alger Scholarship application will open on March 15 and close in October. The Horatio Alger Scholarship application is a common application meaning that you apply once and you will be considered for the range of scholarship programs offered by the Association.

How to Apply:

Create a new account and complete the online application form which will be available starting March 15.
The Horatio Alger Association awards scholarships to those students who have confronted and overcome significant adversity. It is important that applicants are as detailed as possible so as to provide the selection committee a clear picture of individual circumstances.
Upload all required documents online through the application form. (No documents submitted by mail, email or fax will be accepted.)
Submit the application.

Martin Achievement Scholarships (Future UW Transfer Students)

The Martin Achievement scholarship opportunity is designed to encourage and assist students early in their community college careers to pursue the baccalaureate at UW-Seattle after completing their associate's degrees or transfer requirements for UW academic programs.

Recipients of this scholarship may be awarded up to $5,000 for their final year at community college; and up to $12,000/year for up to 3 years at the University of Washington upon transfer.

How to Apply:

To complete online application, applicants will need to include the following:

Basic biographical and educational information.
Answers to 4 short response questions.
Current transcripts from all community colleges/universities attended. Unofficial transcripts are accepted.
A Curriculum Vitae or activities resume listing honors, awards, scholarships, service, research, work experience, etc.
Two letters of recommendation; at least one must be written by a faculty member.

Martin Honors Scholarship (Future UW Transfer Students)

The Martin Honors opportunity enables community college students of exceptional ability and outstanding achievements to complete their baccalaureate degrees at the University of Washington (UW-Seattle.) Students are expected to have well-formulated ideas about the direction of future studies and subsequent careers.

The award will depend on successful admission to University of Washington Seattle as a matriculated student.

Applicant Eligibility:

Must be a Washington State resident who is either a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for in-state tuition through HB 1079 qualification.
Must be currently attending or have attended a community college in the state of Washington.
Must have earned a minimum of 36 credits at a Washington State Community College by the time they matriculate at the University of Washington. (Students who hold an associate's degree are encouraged to apply)

Please note, Washington State community college transfer students who are currently enrolled at the University of Washington may not have earned more than 18 UW credits by the application deadline.

How to Apply:

An online application form, including basic biographical information, educational information, a brief description of career goals and their connection to student's academic plan, and four short response answers to the questions in the application.
An activities resume or curriculum vitae listing honors, awards, scholarships, service, research, work experience, etc.
Current transcripts from all community colleges/universities attended. Unofficial transcripts are accepted.
Two letters of recommendation, at least one written by a faculty member addressing the candidate's intellectual curiosity and potential.

National Association of Home Builders Scholarships

Building upon the proud history of NAHB’s (National Association of Home Builders) wide range of support for construction education, the National Housing Endowment, Home Builders Institute (HBI), and state and local home builders associations (HBAs) continue to find avenues to educate students on the many opportunities a career in construction offers.

Herman J. Smith Scholarship
This scholarship was created to honor Herman J. Smith and his lifelong commitment to the housing industry and the education of future generations of home builders.

Lee S. Evans Scholarship
Mr. Evans, an educator and consultant, has taught thousands of builders how to better manage their businesses. The Evans' endowed gift, along with the generous contributions of many of Mr. Evans' friends, colleagues and former students, created the scholarship fund to assist in addressing the pressing need for educating and training construction managers in the residential building industry.

NAHB Professional Women in Building Strategies for Success Scholarship
This scholarship fund encourages students to further their education in housing industry-related programs.

National Housing Endowment/EOC Student Scholarship Fund
The National Housing Endowment/EOC Student Scholarship (formerly the Bill Carr Scholarship) is awarded to children of Executive Officers in pursuit of a college degree. Funding is through Executive Officer contributions and interest accrued by the Endowment. The scholarship program is managed by the National Housing Endowment/EOC Student Scholarship Subcommittee. To date, more than 187 students have received funds totaling more than $224,500.

Pulte Group Build Your Future Scholarship Program
Pulte Group established the Pulte Group/National Housing Endowment Build Your Future Scholarship in 1999. These scholarships provide tuition assistance to undergraduate students pursuing careers in the building industry.

Olympic Medical Center Scholarship Fund

The Olympic Medical Center Scholarship Fund was created to increase the number of healthcare workers in Clallam County, allow current OMC employees to further their education, and expand opportunities to others to pursue medical careers at ɫ��ɫ.

Applications are now available for the OMC Foundation’s scholarship fund, which will have up to $500,000 available to Olympic Medical Center employees and current and future students to advance careers in health care.

Applicant Eligibility:

must be either a ɫ��ɫ student formally accepted into a medical field of study (Nursing, NAC, Med Assist, Phlebotomy, etc.), or a current OMC employee.
must be a resident of Clallam County.
must express interest in pursuing and obtaining an education to support community needs through medical care.
Nursing scholarship applicants in particular must be willing to sign an agreement to pursue employment at OMC/OMP for a period of at least two (2) years or re-pay the amount of the scholarship in full.

Choose the appropriate application form (current OMC employee, or PC Nursing, or PC "other" medical programs)
- Complete the application checklist, which includes:
- Personal Budget form of monthly household income and expenses
- Total cost of the medical program which the student is enrolled/enrolling in with a detailed list of expenses
- Academic history (unofficial college transcript)
- One-page personal statement
- One letter of reference (from instructor, supervisor, or other mentor)

Pacific Forest Foundation Scholarship

The Pacific Forest Foundation (PFF) scholarship program is offered to students who are studying in forestry related areas. To be eligible, students must reside in any of the western states (CA, WA, OR, ID, AL, AZ, NV, UT, WY, MT and CO), British Columbia, or New Zealand.

PFF will accept applications starting in January of each year, and the application deadline is May 1 of that same year. The PFF plans to awards 5 to 10 scholarships annually; scholarships range from $1,000 to $3,000 each.

Applicants must be studying in one of the following areas:

Forest Engineering
Forest Management
Forest Operations Management
Heavy Equipment Maintenance and Welding
Resource Management
Diesel Mechanics
Other forest/timber industry related areas of study

How to Apply:

Complete the online application.
Obtain two (2) letters of reference or recommendation to include in your application, preferably from people who are in an industry-related company.
Write a short essay (no more than 800 words) or attach a video covering a topic from the list on the application.

Applications are reviewed by the PFF scholarship committee with the final selection of recipients made at the PFF Summer Board Meeting (in July). Recipients will be notified by mail after that date.

Passport to Careers Scholarship

Through the Passport to Careers program offered in partnership by the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) and ɫ��ɫ, foster and unaccompanied homeless youth students receive up to a $2,000/year scholarship that assists with the cost of attending college (tuition, fees, books, housing, transportation, and some personal expenses), support services from college staff, and priority consideration for the WA College Grant (also known as the State Need Grant) and State Work Study programs.

Applicant Eligibility:

Have been in Washington state, federal, or tribal foster care after age 13 (or) be verified as an unaccompanied homeless youth (or an unaccompanied youth at risk of being homeless).
ɫ��ɫ at least half-time (6+ credits/quarter) in an eligible college, apprenticeship, or pre-apprenticeship before their 22 birthday.
Maintain Washington residency.
Not pursuing a degree in theology.
Be working toward earning their first bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or certificate, or pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship.
Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Rainier Olympic (Pierce County) Nurses Association

Rainier Olympic Nurses Association (RONA), formerly Pierce County Nurses Association (PCNA), offers four different types of scholarships to nursing students.Scholarship funds are sent directly to the accredited school. R.O.N.A. scholarships are available to students living or attending school in Pierce, Thurston, Kitsap, Grays Harbor, Mason, Clallam & Jefferson counties.

High School Level Scholarship - Awarded to graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue a career path in nursing.
LPN to RN Level Scholarship - Awarded to a person who is applying to, has been accepted to or is currently enrolled in an LPN to RN program.
College Level Scholarship - Awarded to a person who is not yet a Registered Nurse, but who has been accepted into or are currently enrolled in a basic Registered Nurse Program, either pursuing their ADN or BSN.
Florence Golda Scholarship - Awarded to a PCNA member who is enrolled in a program to advance his/her nursing education. All Registered Nurses applying for the Florence Golda Scholarship must be a PCNA member in good standing.

Scholarship funds are sent directly to the accredited school. These scholarships are available to students living or attending school in Pierce County as well as within our expanded jurisdictional boundaries of Thurston, Kitsap, Grays Harbor, Mason, Clallam & Jefferson counties.

Sea Mar Farmworker High School & College Scholarships

Sea Mar recognizes and acknowledges the barriers children of farm working families face in their pursuit of a college degree. Economic strains, as well as the language and cultural barriers can often affect these students. Sometimes students need to work after-school and all summer to assist their family. Sea Mar is proud to provide annual scholarships to help make college a reality.

Award amount: $1,000

Applicant Eligibility:

Students who work or have worked OR, whose parent/legal guardian is or has worked as a farm worker
High school senior, incoming college students and college students, who show commitment to their education, demonstrate leadership and care about the community
Exhibit financial need due to individual/family hardship
Will be enrolling as a full-time student in a higher education institute the upcoming academic year
Are not applicants who have previously been a recipient of this scholarship either as a high school student or college student. This scholarship is a one-time award.

Sea Mar Latino/a Educational Achievement Project Scholarship

The Sea Mar Latino/a Educational Achievement Project Scholarship provides financial support for students who demonstrate a history of advocacy, responsibility, accountability, perseverance, are go-getters, and have shown or have the strong potential to be contributors to their community.

Award amount: $2,500

Applicant Eligibility:

High school seniors, new and current college undergraduates and, and new and current graduate students who will be:

ɫ��ɫing in a higher education institute the upcoming academic year.
Demonstrate a sense of obligation to improving or advancing the community.
Committed to achieving educational and leadership goals.
Exhibit financial need due to individual/family hardship.
Will be enrolling as a half-time or full-time student in a higher education institute the upcoming academic year.

Soroptimist International of Olympic Rain Forest: Diane Demorest Scholarship

The Soroptimist International of Olympic Rain Forest (SIORF) in Forks, Washington, offers a $1,000 scholarship each year to a student with strong ties to the West End of Clallam County (Forks, LaPush, Clallam Bay and Neah Bay) who has been accepted into a college nursing program or an education program in any medical field. This scholarship is in honor of Diane Demorest, a former Soroptimist member and a well-loved West End nurse.

Applicant Eligibility:

Any student, male or female, with strong ties to the West End of Clallam County (Forks, LaPush, Clallam Bay and Neah Bay) who has been accepted into a college nursing program or an education program in any medical field. Nursing students get preference, but the scholarship is open to all eligible students in any medical field.

Judging will be for the following:

Attitude: General worthiness, motivation and goals, integrity, commitment to your goals, and community-minded.
Need: Financial need and resourcefulness
Community Ties: West End community connection or involvement
Application: Demonstration of your ability to follow directions, attend to detail and communicate clearly and neatly

How To Apply:

Exhibits should be neat, concise and legible on letter-sized paper. All required documentation should be attached to the application in the order listed below.

Complete a Diane Demorest Nursing Scholarship Application. An application, and additional information, can be found under Application Documents below.
Write a 500 word or less essay that describes yourself and why you wish to be considered for this award. Provide a brief biographical "snapshot" describing your current circumstances and needs, your long-range career goals, and some personal history. Be sure to include any volunteer efforts, accomplishments, community involvement or leadership and your past/present employment.
Submit transcripts (unofficial transcripts will be accepted) of all high school and college-level coursework. If you already have a college degree (e.g., AA from a community college), a high school transcript is not required.
A copy of your acceptance letter from a college nursing program or other medical field.
Maximum of two (2) letters of recommendation from an educator and/or a medical provider who is not a close relative.

University of Washington Transfer Scholarship

The Martin Family Foundation Honors Scholarship Program enables Washington State Community College students of exceptional ability and outstanding achievement to complete their baccalaureate degrees at the University of Washington in Seattle. Martin Honors Scholars are encouraged to join departmental honors programs at UW, if available.

Applicant Eligibility:

Applicants must be Washington State residents who are in any one of the following three categories: (1) US citizens, or (2) US Permanent Residents, or (3) Eligible for in-state tuition through HB 1079 qualification.
Applicants must have earned a minimum of 36 credits at a Washington State community college by the time they matriculate at the University of Washington. Students who hold an associates degree are encouraged to apply.
Washington State community college transfer students who are currently enrolled at the University of Washington may not have earned more than 18 UW credits by the application deadline.
The award will depend on successful admission to the University of Washington as a matriculated student.
The selection committee gives no consideration to an applicant's gender, race, color, creed, or national origin.

University of Washington Transfer Scholarship: Labor and Social Justice

Are you an undergrad passionate about social justice? A busy activist building a student group or union campaign? The Harry Bridges Center for Labor Studies has multiple scholarships available to incoming freshman, transfer students, and graduate students at the University of Washington who are interested in social justice/labor studies and plan to apply their education to these causes—all with one scholarship application.

These scholarships were created in honor of labor activists such as Silme Domingo, Gene Viernes, Frank Jenkins, Jr., and Kennedy Drayton.

Applicant Eligibility:

Incoming Freshman, undergraduate transfer, or graduate student at University of Washington (Seattle, Bothel, or Tacoma campus).
Interest in social justice and labor studies and plan to apply education towards these causes.

How to Apply:

Write an essay response* to the prompts provided in the Application Instructions.
Provide a brief letter of support from a teacher or community member.
Provide a high school or college transcript. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
Provide up to date contact information, including e-mail, mailing addresses, and phone number.
Optional: Additional documents demonstrating your commitment to labor or Labor Studies, such as a resume or curriculum vitae.

*To strengthen your application, it is highly recommended that you familiarize yourself with the terms of specific Labor Studies awards you are eligible for and prepare your application with the intents and purposes of these awards in mind.

Washington Award for Vocational Excellence Scholarship (WAVE)

WAVE is a merit scholarship that honors the achievements of Washington’s top career and technical education (CTE) students. There are up to 147 winners each year—three from each legislative district.

Applicant Eligibility:

Graduating Washington high school seniors are eligible. These high school career technical education (CTE) students must have completed, or be in the process of completing, their second course in a single CTE pathway.
Community and technical college students are also eligible. These students must attend one of Washington’s 34 public community and technical colleges, and be in the process of completing at least one year of a professional-technical program.

Washington Council of the Blind Scholarship

The Washington Council of the Blind scholarship committee is offering scholarships to legally blind residents of Washington State attending or planning to attend accredited universities, colleges, or technical schools in the United States.

Applicant Eligibility:

The applicant must be legally blind in both eyes. Legal blindness is defined as an individual who has a visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the corrected eye and/or 20 degrees or less visual field in the corrected eye.
The applicant must be enrolled or have been accepted to enroll in an accredited vocational school, college, or university located in the United States.
The applicant must be a resident of Washington State. A resident of Washington State is an individual who has physically resided in the State of Washington for a period of twelve (12) consecutive months at the time of application.

The selection process includes a recorded telephone interview with a scholarship committee member. Scholarship recipients will be notified of their selection. Scholarship recipients will be invited to join the WA state convention in Seattle, Washington.

Washington State Opportunity Scholarships

WA State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) offers two scholarship programs for Washington State residents pursuing a credential towards a high-demand career in Washington state. The Baccalaureate Scholarship is for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a STEM or health care field. The Career and Technical Scholarship (CTS) is for students pursuing a certificate, apprenticeship or associate degree in a high-demand trade, STEM or health care field such as welding, manufacturing or information technology. The scholarship funds are flexible and can be used to cover tuition, fees, and other costs of attendance such as housing, transportation, food, and more.

The Baccalaureate Scholarship application opens each year typically in January. The CTS application opens three times a year in April, September, and January.

How to Apply:

Interested applicants must complete the entire application process. Applicants must:
Complete all application sections via the Scholarship Application Portal and click “Submit” by the application deadline.
Submit the FAFSA or WASFA for the relevant academic year by the deadline on the application timeline.

The application will require approximately 60 to 90 minutes to complete. Applicants may start the application, save progress and return to complete it later up until the application deadline. Applicants should know what college they expect to attend and what major they intend to complete before beginning their application.
